The short version
meckey does not collect, store or transmit any data. It makes no network calls. There is no account, no analytics, no crash reporter, and nothing your keystrokes are sent to.
What Input Monitoring is used for
meckey requests macOS's Input Monitoring permission to know when a key was pressed, and which one — that is the only mechanism the operating system provides for playing a sound per keystroke. The permission is requested from a menu item, never at launch: the app preflights the check silently and only asks when you choose to.
What is processed, and where it stays
Only the key code is read, to select which sound to play and to compute your live words-per-minute figure. The character you typed — its actual content — is never read, logged, stored or transmitted. Everything happens locally; nothing leaves the machine.
Sound packs
Bundled sound packs are bundled with the app; nothing is downloaded at runtime. If you import your own Mechvibes-format pack, it is read from the local directory you choose.
Payments
If you purchase Pro or Studio, our merchant of record processes the transaction and receives your billing details directly, under their own privacy policy. We receive only your email address and order reference, used to issue your licence and provide support.
Children
meckey is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children under 13.
